Sewing Again

I think my sewing machine might get a work out this week. I'm unexpectedly off work, length of vacation unknown. So I went to Hobby Lobby today bought fabric. Tomorrow To wash iron & get cutting. Tomorrow afternoon Hubby and I are going to go golfing.
Not sure what the rest of the week holds.

Sewing ahhhh!!

About 2 weeks ago the little ladies and I made a fabric store run & got a bunch of nice corduroy fabric to make "stuff". However, things got busy and today was the first time I've sat down and thought about what to make. Big girl isn't wearing many skirts these days, she likes her skinny jeans to go to school (trouble), nothing made for her at this time. I made a skirt for middle girl brown with pink polka dots and a 2" ruffle in a different fabric.

Then I decided I would go through my patterns found one for little people pants. Pulled it out, and cut out the pieces required. Thought I was doing great. Then when I went to put the pieces together I realized I cut all the pieces the same rather than folding my fabric, since none of the pieces needed to be cut on the fold AHHH..

At least I was able to add a ruffle and and trim off the top and make a skirt. So the baby got a skirt instead of pants.
Maybe tomorrow night I'll try pants again.
The fun of learning.

Procrastinating

I'm scheduled to take an exam August 28 @ 11 a.m. I haven't taken an exam in years (14 to be exact). I'm trying to get my certification in CASE MANAGEMENT. So instead of doing what I should be.. I've been busy sewing.

Yesterday the girls & I went to the Fabric store & found a remnant that got me started. It was a piece of corduroy, brown with hearts. That was what we picked for Biggest girl with Solid brown.

Then we had to pick out other corduroy for the other girls. Even a broken needle on my serger didn't get me to the books instead I had to fix that... Tonight I've made 6 skirts My girls each got one skirt plus there is an extra for the middle girl (test run).. then I made two others that will be mailed to two little ladies in Northern Ontario. Hope they love them.

I guess tomorrow I should study.

Sewing...

Hubby is away this week & I don't sleep well when he's gone. I've been getting a lot of sewing done after the girls are in bed. Last night I cut a bunch of projects & all but one is sewn together.
The girls got shirts last week from a girlfriend & I love how the shirt fit the baby & here's my try to make her one on my own.
The green shirt is the store shirt. The orange polka dot is the one I've made. I can't wait to try it on her.

Ahhhh

I ran to the basement to do a fix on a shirt for big girl who was at school when i made it. Then ahhhhhh. I learned how to thread the serger. Not fun. Why when you think it should just take a second. Oh the frustration. The joys. LOL.

Sewing part 2

Late Wednesday afternoon we had a thunder storm so we had to come in & play in the play room. I took full advantage of this time in the playroom to get another dress done. This one took less than two hours start to finish & I had a much happier model. I'm loving this new found dress. Now hubby just has to guard his shirts closely..

Sewing

This morning I had the chance to get down to the play room and sew.. What fun. I've had plans for a long time (1year+) to make the girls (baby) a dress from daddy's old dress shirts. So I finally did it. I am excited to make the next one now too. The dress ended up being too big for the littlest miss however having three girls is great. It fit the next one in line. I didn't have a very happy model this a.m but here is a picture none the less. It was quick & easy & I've learned a few things to improve on making the next dress. The buttons go up the back of the dress. I'll have to take better pictures when the model is happier!

More Sewing Projects

One of our little nieces is having her 5th birthday in just a few days and we decided that she would get home made gifts. So I made her a monkey dress & headband. Also made her a towel. With my big girl taking showers & wanting to be all independent I decided I needed to make her a towel that she could wrap herself in. But our little niece is getting the first one I hope she loves it!

Sewing

The other night my girl friend came over sans kids & helped me get going on a couple sewing projects. The first thing I made with said friend standing by to guide me was a head band for MOI. (insert picture when camera near by & no baby nursing)
I think it turned out well. I have even worn it out all ready (next day).
My next project my friend help me cut out the fabric & pin it together. I have almost completed an "a line" dress in brown & pink for baby. Just need to figure out the darn button hole thing! (insert picture when camera near by & no baby nursing & button holes are complete) I can't wait for my birthday to get some sewing gadgets hint... hint ..I need to work buying fabric into my household budget for my new found past time!

Cloth Diaper HOLDER

Well last week the ladies & I along with our sewing mentor & her kids went over to the local Fabric store & found me some NICE funky fabric from the remnant bin! My girlfriend made sure I had everything I needed, thread, zipper, & coordinating materials for the outside/inside! Then we came back to my house & I looked at her diaper holder & tried to come up with a plan. I didn't find it too hard to cut out all the layers & sew them together, but boy oh boy my first try @ zippers OUCH.. that took me as long as everything else put together (including shopping). It probably didn't help the baby wasn't feeling well & would cry periodically while I was trying to finish it up. I was also running into the dinner hour clock & hubby was expected home. So I actually left the zipper & went back to it the next day when hubby was home et voila first try it was done & now I have a bag to hold my babies wet dirty cloth diapers in until we get home! I can't wait to use this one of a kind item I MADE for myself.

Cloth Diapers

On January 2 we went totally cloth & are still using cloth diapers all day every day. But in the last week I've realized that I need something more for my diaper bag. Currently I bring a plastic shopping bag to put my daughters wet diapers in when we are out (if I remember to put one in my bag that is). So tomorrow I think the ladies & I will head over to the local fabric/craft store & see what we can get from the reminent bins to make something to hold these bulky wet diapers in! Stay tuned for an update

New adventure - the finished product

I did it I completed my first small quilt. It came in a kit but none the less I had to cut it all out (I can't cut a straight line) & sew it all together. I realized I don't have all the necessary tools to sew/cut material. Thank goodness I have a birthday coming up! Now I'm itching to start another project just not sure what it should be! Suggestions welcome.

New adventure

I don't know how I have time to have a new hobby, but some how with three little ones (4, 2, & 2 months), baby in cloth diapers, a big house to keep & blogging I've found time to start teaching myself how to sew. Before Christmas I got a sewing maching & made our family Christmas stockings & they even held up after Santa stuffed them. Now I'm trying my hand at a small quilt. I will hopefully have it done by the end of the weekend. Pictures to follow. I don't know what my next project will be.

Sewing Machine

So a few weeks ago when we were starting to pull out Christmas decorations hubby decided that in all my spare time or Grandma in her spare time should make new stockings for our family to hang on the mantel. So off Grandma, 3 kids & I went to the local fabric store & purchased enough material for this project. The was off to another store to purchase an entry level sewing machine. Because you see, I don't know how to sew. I had my mothers sewing machine for a year or more & never used it, but now that we have a project to do I am in need of a machine.
Grandma & I got right to work cutting out a shock the first night & sewing up a prototype for hubby's approval. Hubby liked the our first go at so off we were to make all of them. Now they are complete with names & all. Lets hope Santa likes them & doesn't put a lump of coal in any ones stocking.
