WASH YOUR HANDS.....

Exercise & diet is how I have been able to control my blood sugars for the past 2 weeks but today I was so SURPRISED at my test result. The morning started out GREAT.. my fasting blood sugar was well below the limit it could be.. yahoo for me.. so I proceeded to have breakfast .. thinking I was eating the exact amount of cereal with milk I do every morning which usually isn't a problem. When I tested my sugars 1 hour after my meal it was 10 point over the limit.. OUCH.. Could it be the battle my youngest & I had over appropriate clothing for a cool / crisp fall day! I think so.. Friends & I were heading out for a nice walk, have a picnic & then maybe some shopping so I was also running around trying to get everything organized to meet up with the ladies.

We made it to our walk in time. I thought I was going to drop during our walk as the ladies walk much faster than a 9 month pregnant woman (we are all pushing some type of double occupancy stroller) but I was still a little behind! We stopped for lunch enjoyed a great picnic lunch & my lunch was what I thought it should be to fit the amount of carbs & such that I could eat.. then we started our walk back. Luckily for me that 4/6 of the kids wanted to walk so I decided to stay behind the other ladies to move the slower kids alone. I was okay with this new pace.

Once we got back to the parking area I tested my sugars but had to pick my friends jaw up off the pavement because my sugars were 50+ over the limit & we had just done a BUNCH of exercise. We proceed to pack all the kids up & drive over to our shopping destination & on the drive (at a red light) I decide I need to retest! I am now under the upper limit how is that possible in less than 30 minutes. When we finally get home I call my Gestational Diabetes resource nurse & she said it's not possible for such a drastic drop in number in that short of time period & the fact that we were outside/picnic lunching I probably tested the remains of some JAM from the girls PB&J sandwiches we had for lunch... so the moral today's post... WASH YOUR HANDS before testing your blood sugar!!
